About a year ago I was introduced to my new favorite singer. She's an amazingly talented musician, songwriter, singer and an electrifying live performer. She's also virtually unknown. Her name is Butterfly Boucher.
So the story goes, the record company was "so excited" about Butterfly and the album that instead of waiting a year and letting her tour and build a following, they released the record right away. As a result one of the best pop CDs in years is left unheard by most.
The story doesn't end there though. Butterfly went on tour opening for Sarah Mclaughlin and proceeded to set CD sales records each night. Some nights she'd sell nearly a 1000 CD's. To put that into perspective, a popular band may sell somewhere in the neighborhood of 300-400.
Now if that wasn't enough she also wrote every song, played every instrument and even directed one of her own videos. When I first heard the album I was struck by the playing, and assumed she had some really talented studio musicians helping her out. I loved her even more when I learned it was her playing ever part (including the drums), save for cello on one track.
Her music is fun, catchy, interesting and different. I really can't recommend her enough. I've linked a couple of her videos below. Check her out!

I like it.
I first heard her last year, on the independent radio station I listen to, love her style and sound!

I am not real into female singers, so they have to really have something special to get my attention, she surely does...
She will definately go far.
I like her music. I'll have to get some of that!!
I'm glad you guys like her. I really think she is destined to be a huge, huge star.
Very pleasant, very nice, John. Almost 80s-ish, both the music and the videos. (British 80s-ish, this is.)
Refreshing.
Coincidentally, I ordered her CD not even 24 hours ago. (Which was before I knew this site even existed.) I read a daily blog by a Nashville musician named Daniel Tashian, and he is going to be in her band at an upcoming show. He said she was really good so I checked her out and bought her CD.
I wanted to make a new post, but, being the idiot I am, I can't see how to do that.
Has anyone heard the song "Promises" by Badly Drawn Boy? I heard it for the first time on TCM, last month. TCM had a remembrance dedication featuring all the people in the film industry who had passed on during the year, and that song was played along with it. I found it to be one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I've heard in ages. Of course, I may have been swayed by the dedication, but I think the song can still stand up on it's own. If anyone has heard the song without seeing the TCM dedication, I'd be interested in having an objective opinion. I was thinking about getting the Badly Drawn Boy DVD, on the basis of that song, alone, as a gift for a friend. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=742uUWqB9AY
